Eilidh Steel is a Scottish fiddler & composer from Helensburgh, Argyllshire. She started playing at the age of six and grew up immersed in music with great interest in the west Highland fiddle tradition. She was awarded the Sir Jimmy Shand Scholarship to study a BA Honours degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and since graduating has worked as a performing musician.
She has been touring abroad since the age of 16, had many radio and TV appearances and has been invited to perform at some special events including the opening concert of Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, invited by the previous First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond to perform at a reception held at Edinburgh Castle's Great Hall, has accompanied the actor/singer Ewan Macgregor in concert and performed to 4000 people at the Tocatì Festival in Verona, Italy to name a few.
Eilidh is a respected tunesmith and her compositions are being performed and recorded by many artists throughout the world.
For eight years, on the side of being a musician, Eilidh was Artistic Director of the Scots Fiddle Festival, one of Scotland's most popular traditional music festivals. As well as programming this festival each year (booking up to 200 musicians) Eilidh also founded the organisation's schools project and highly successful youth outreach project.
As well being invited to perform, Eilidh is in great demand as a tutor at festivals and organisations both in Scotland and abroad. She has also adjudicated a number of competitions including the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of The Year, Ayrshire Young Traditional Musician of the Year competitions, Barra & Vatersay Provincial Mòd and Edinburgh local Mòd.
