Eilidh Steel is an award winning Scottish fiddler and composer, known for her beautifully expressive and stylistic playing. Eilidh is from Helensburgh on the West Coast of Scotland and started playing at the age of six. She grew up immersed in traditional and classical music, gaining the experience of touring in the UK and abroad with bands from the age of 16. Since graduating from the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, where she received a scholarship to study a BA Honours degree in Scottish music, Eilidh has carved out an impressive career for herself as a performer, composer and tutor.
A respected tunesmith, Eilidh's compositions are being performed and recorded by many artists throughout the world.
She has always had a great interest in the west Highland fiddle tradition and a particular interest in music from her local area which she continues to research. Her self-published book ‘West Highland Tunes For Beginner Fiddlers’ has quickly become a valuable resource for tutors, music organisations and learners.
Eilidh tours and records in a duo with guitarist and singer-songwriter Mark Neal. Their critically acclaimed debut album 'Imprints' which features a number of Eilidh's compositions, has received international airplay and was BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal's Album Of The Week.
For eight years, on the side of being a musician, Eilidh was Artistic Director of the Scots Fiddle Festival, one of Scotland's most popular traditional music festivals. As well as programming this festival each year, Eilidh also founded the organisation's schools project and highly successful youth project.
As well as performing, Eilidh is in demand as a tutor for various organisations and festivals throughout the UK and abroad. She is a part time lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and occasionally holds her own workshops as well as her online tune learning platform 'Tune Tuesday'.
