Social Media:
Over the past few years I've learned a fair bit about doing social media for my own bands and for other organisations including the Scots Fiddle Festival and Edinburgh Ceilidh Club. I have also worked on more of a focused advertising for a shorter timescale for the launch of a band’s new album and particular events.
Digital platforms are always changing and I try my best to keep up with changes to make the most of these platforms. Over the years I have learned more about analytics and scheduling to make the most impact and to save heaps of time.
I enjoy the creative side of social media and coming up with out of the box ideas on how to promote things. Send me an email to chat through any ideas you have or if I can help you with having a lesson on how to get started.
Festival and event organising / programming / promoting:
On the side of performing, I worked as Artistic Director of the Scots Fiddle Festival for 8 years which is one of Scotland's biggest traditional music festivals. As well as programming the festival (booking up to 200 performers each year) I founded both the festival's schools project which involved giving performances / talks in a number of schools in the run up to the festival, and the Outreach Project which gave young musicians an insight into all aspects of being a professional musician (arranging, stage craft, recording, giving interviews, performing etc)
In the roll of Artistic Director I was face of the organisation and took part in many interviews each year to promote the festival for press, radio and TV. I am proud that I managed to develop and grow the festival while I was there and established a loyal audience that both maintained confidence in my programming and trusted my judgements when it came to introducing new acts that I brought to Scotland. I gained experience in most aspects of running a festival and since I finished working for the SFF I have helped others in the developmental stage of running a festival.
If you need some advice and want to talk through ideas you have get in touch.
